Mold Isn’t Normal - Make Sure Your AC Tech Knows It

Getting a new AC unit?  Make sure you know how to make the most of it first.  About half of new AC and HVAC systems are installed incorrectly.  If they’re fitted properly, getting a new AC system is a lot like putting a new motor in a car without maintaining anything else in the car.

Don’t Let Inefficiency be the Norm

When the air circulation systems on your property are poorly installed, they can’t efficiently pull moisture out of the air to drain it away.  This can be disastrous in a humid environment like our Gulf Coast.  A malfunctioning system can’t drain away moisture at the rate that it’s sucking it in, so it builds up and causes heavy condensation throughout the duct work.  This creates the perfect environment for mold to flourish and circulate through your home and every breath you take.

Money can’t buy happiness - but it can buy a better filter

To make matters worse, technicians typically suggest that we use cheap filters - the kind you can see through - for our AC systems to ensure that the motor doesn’t have to work too hard to pull in air.  Yet, a higher quality, heavier filter is the only way to prevent debris and spores from polluting your system.  Mold feeds on this debris and sprawls rapidly, and a cheap solution becomes an expensive, long term issue.

Not only can it cost far more to get rid of mold than to get a new motor, but the mold build up will make the AC intake less efficient.  In the end, your motor ends up working harder than it would when working with a high quality filter because your cheap solution bogged it down with pollutants.  As mold growth is pushed into the evaporator coils and condensation drain line, the motor continues to work harder, burning out prematurely.

It is absolutely critical to invest in quality filters and proper installation when getting a new AC system.  The longterm outcome not only saves you money but spares you from constant exposure to harmful mold and the toxic health problems that come with it.

When your AC pulls air from the outside in, it needs a quality filter to prevent toxic particles from clogging the drainage system.
